Valknut

Odin was the most enigmatic of the Norse gods, often known by the cognomen "Grim" ("the Hooded One"), so it is fitting that he should be represented by a symbol that is abstract and of mysterious origin.

The three interlaced triangles known as the "Valknut" first appear on Tenth Century runestones, and the symbol is attached to a figure on an eight-legged horse that can only represent Odin, but the reasons for it are lost. The only hint of a clue comes in the Saga "The Fooling of Gilvi", where Odin, for reasons never explained, chooses to appear to the baffled King Gilvi as a trinity.
